Saving Money On Ibiza Holidays

Submitted by: Steve Marcuis

If you ve felt the proverbial credit crunch this year but don t want to miss out on your annual Ibiza outing here s a few tips we ve compiled on finding cheap holidays to Ibiza. Ibiza s got a perhaps undeserved reputation for being an expensive place to holiday, mostly because the nightclubs are expensive to get into and buy drinks. Actually for things like flights, hotels and food and drink the high level of competition makes it one of the cheaper summer holiday resorts in Europe these days.

Packages holidays or separate bookings?

The big question to ask is whether its cheaper to get a package deal with your flights and hotel included or to book flights yourself with Easyjet or Ryan air then booking your hotels separately. I you re going last minute actually it usually works out cheaper to book a package because flights tend to get more expensive closer to the dates you want to leave, whereas packages come down in price. UK travel agents and online holiday sites drop their packages down to stupidly cheap prices in the last few days before departure because its better to have someone on their planes and in their hotels than to have empty seats so keep an eye out and if you re laving it last minute be as flexible as possible with departure dates and times to give yourself the best shot of getting a good deal.

All-inclusive hotels

If you re booking a package holiday look for an all-inclusive hotel if you can. These are usually only a little more expensive than normal self catering or half board hotels and you ll get all your food (and more importantly, drink!) included in the price so you can get warmed up at the hotel before hitting the bars or extortionately overpriced clubs!

Taking out money at ATM s

Do your foreign exchange at home before you leave to get enough cash for the first few days of your holidays then get yourself a pre-paid currency card to withdraw cash in Ibiza rather than using your credit or debit card which will probably charge you a big withdrawal fee. With these cards you get charged per withdrawal so go in with your mates and get a big lump of cash out at once rather than little bits each night.

Cheaper club tickets

This yer the clubs have been better at reducing their club ticket prices for pre-bookings. It used to be that you got pretty much the same price on the door but in 2010 you seem to be able to save a few quid on the high ticket prices by booking online in your home currency rather than paying on the door in euros. Make sure you only pre-book for nights which you definitely want to go to though!

When to visit

The cheapest holidays are in June and September as July and August prices get bumped up by the families travelling with their kids during school holidays. If you re trying to save dosh its definitely recommended to aim for either early in he season (june) or towards the end (september). This way you ll also be able to plan your holiday around the opening and closing parties which happen at the start and end of every season and see some of the best DJ s flying in specially and are usually rammed with people despite being outside of the main season.

In summary, shop around for the best prices and do a bit of prep work before your holiday and a week or two in Ibiza can be cheaper than you d think.
