If you have finally made the decision to run in a 5k race, then you have to be dedicated to spending some effort and time on training. Ideally, this means that you should implement a 5k training schedule and do all that you can to stick to it. So, you have decided to do it. The mind is prepared and willing to take on the challenge. So, what’s next? At this point, you can just do what most people do and that is search online for a free 5k training schedule that you can save and follow. You will have little trouble finding one, as there are tons floating around out there. Many charity or running sites will give you a program to download that will include stats and figures related to times or distances that you should be running each day. The only problem with the free online programs is that they usually teach you absolutely nothing about running, and do nothing but make it more like that you don’t finish. The only thing they increase is the chances that you get injured. A quality 5k training schedule will contain information like this: — Nutritional advice is crucial. There is no way you can expect to function at a high level if you are filling your body with the wrong fuel. Would you put gasoline in your diesel engine? — You should be learning new ways of training that can increase your level of fitness. Training methods have advanced quite a bit over the years. Using these methods will make it highly unlikely that you abuse the muscles needed to run properly, and you will decrease your risk of injury. — Search for a new guide called ‘5k training schedule for beginners’. This will quickly increase your level of fitness while also limiting the time you have to spend on training. — The proper attire is as important as anything. Make sure you have chosen the correct shoes and clothing for the task. — Make sure to have some well placed days of rest incorporated into your training to offset your days of exercising. The biggest thing that your 5k training schedule should teach you is how your body reacts right from the beginning of your training up through the day of the race. You should be able to read how your training is going and adjust your training if needed to boost your progression if needed.
